Cemetery Data Preservation Project

The Sandy Basin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has taken on a project to collect and preserve tombstone inscriptions from the old mountain cemeteries in Dickenson County. This project was begun by a local citizen who donated the project to us, along with all data collected thus far.

Many of the old tombstones here were hand-hewn from native sandstone. Through the years the stones have weathered, and the lettering is chipping and eroding away. We hope to preserve this data for future generations, and will be posting it online so everyone will have access to this information.
